Do TFWs in these tables include SAWP and Caregivers?
Temporary Residents: Work Permit Holders – Ad Hoc IRCC (Specialized Datasets)
Temporary residents who are in Canada on a work permit in the observed calendar year. Datasets include Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and International Mobility Program (IMP) work permit holders by year in which permit(s) became effective. Please note that the datasets will not be updated.
Please note that in these datasets, the figures have been suppressed or rounded to prevent the identification of individuals when the datasets are compiled and compared with other publicly available statistics. Values between 0 and 5 are shown as “--“ and all other values are rounded to the nearest multiple of 5. This may result to the sum of the figures not equating to the totals indicated.

I am trying to source information and statistics on the following topics: 1. How many companies are currently on the "banned list" - and what was the reason for their addition? 2. Any information and statistics on site inspections, employer compliance reviews, reviews of ministerial instructions 3. Any stats out there on Administrative Monetary Penalties? 4. Any new compliance obligations introduced in the past year?
Hi Larry, the following is the response provided to us by the data owner: Thank you for your reply. You may be able to obtain this information by submitting a request for custom IRCC data. To submit a request for data, please email the firstname.lastname@example.org mailbox with a detailed description of your requested report. Please note that ad hoc requests for data may require a cost recovery fee to be paid as per the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Regards, Momin, Open Government team.
Are there plans to release data on TFWP work permit holders who transition statuses to permanent resident (as was included in the 2014 Facts & Figures)?
Hi Jill, The following response has been posted on behalf of the data owner: "Hello, please visit our new record: Transition of Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident at http://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/1b026aab-edb3-4d5d-8231-270a09ed4e82. We have included: Admissions of PR with Prior Study Permit, IMP Work Permit and TFWP Work Permit holder status. We hope this will be useful to you. Thank you. " -Tasha, the Open Government Team
I am wondering if the title for the tables with the label "TFWP by Province/Territory and Program" aren't misleading. I am looking at the English Tables that say "Canada - Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) Work Permit Holders by Intended Province/Territory of Destination, Program and Year in which Permit(s) became effective*, 2004-March 2016" and where the footnote associated with the asterik then says "Canada - Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) Work Permit Holders by Intended Province/Territory of Destination, Program and Year in which Permit(s) became effective*, 2004-March 2016." The language "became effective" strongly suggests "new" permits being issued. But in my analysis of the data for the LCP program, compared with other data (including a presentation by one of IRCC ADMs) the numbers look like the combination of " TFWs entering" AND "TFWs already here." Stated differently, in 2007 nearly 30,000 (yes 30K) LCP permits "became effective" with 15,890 in Ontario. I can't believe that these are "new permits" or permits that just "became effective" in 2007. Could it be that the 15,890 in Ontario (for example) are the sum of a) new permits issued in 2007 and b) permits that were issued in 2005 or 2006 that still are valid for 2007 (eg signed). If it is the latter, a clearer footnote would be helpful. Thank you.
Hi Monica, I have sent your request for clarification to the data owner. Once we get a reply, we will post it for you here. Thank you! -Tasha, the Open Government Team
Monica, Apologies for the delay in response - here's what we got from the data holder: Thank you for your comment. We are continuing to enhance the Open Data Portal. To clarify, “Year in which permit(s) became effective” is the same as “sign date”. This is the date the permit was signed by an authorized signing agent/office of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Therefore in your example, 15,890 in Ontario only includes the permits signed in 2007. The definitions in the Facts and Figures Glossary of terms and concepts may help further clarify these terms. We hope this addresses your concerns, and please contact us directly at Statistics-Statistiques@cic.gc.ca if you have any further questions. Karin open-ouvert team
Data by industry, available from the Dept. in the past, would be helpful to analysts.
Hi Andy, Thank you for your comment. The following response has been posted on behalf of the data owner: “Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider including data by industry in future datasets. In the interim, to submit a request for data, please email the Statistiques-Statistics@cic.gc.ca mailbox with a detailed description of your requested report.” Thank you and hope this helps! -Tasha, the Open Government Team
As my previous questions weren't yet answered, let me restate them so that they might be easier to answer. 1. What are the numbers of US and Mexican citizens entering Canada as declared NAFTA Chapter 16 business persons (regardless of class) for each county for each year from 1993 to 2015? 2. What are the numbers of Mexicans entering Canada as declared NAFTA Chapter 16 business persons (regardless of class) who then later claimed refugee status in Canada for each year from 1993 to 2015? 3. What are the number of Mexicans entering Canada on a Temporary Work Permit (which was created in 2009), including business persons, for each year from 2009 to 2015? Best regards, Jeff Boggs
Hi Jeff, Thanks for your questions. They have been shared with the data holder, and we will post their response as soon as we receive it. Thanks for your patience. The Open Government Team

Dear Tasha, Thank you kindly. Regards, Jeff
I am looking for two kinds of data on NAFTA Chapter 16 B-1 "business person" permit holders. the number of US and Mexican "business persons" entering Canada on the B-1 permit for the years 1993 -201]5. Optimally these would be broken down by [a] Traders, [b] Investors and [c] Professionals and Technicians, and Intra-company transferees. the number of US and Mexcian nationals entering Canada on the B-1 permit for the years 1993-2015 who after entry to Canada then applied for Refugee Status, Humanitarian and Asylum purposes. An MA student of mine is hoping to use these in her MA project to compare the similarities and differences in the number and kind of NAFTA Chapter 16 B-1 permit-holders from these two countries. Best regards, Jeff Boggs
Would it be possible to show the date a given dataset was posted please?
