Temporary Foreign Worker Program 2017Q2 Understanding Labour Market Impact Assessment statistics: This release displays quarterly Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) statistics related to positions, geographical location, occupations, sectors and foreign workers by country of origin. It is important to note that the decision to issue a work permit rests with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and that not all positions on a positive LMIA result in a work permit. As well, there may also be a time delay between the date the temporary foreign worker (TFW) obtains the work permit and the date they enter Canada. For these reasons, data provided in the LMIA statistics cannot be used to calculate the number of TFWs that have entered or will enter Canada. IRCC publishes annual statistics on the number of foreign workers who enter Canada in its Facts and Figures publication. These statistics are based on the number of work permits issued at ports of entry and encompass a variety of program streams beyond the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), such as temporary residents entering Canada to work, study or for humanitarian and compassionate reasons. 2017-08-31 2017-09-06 Employment and Social Development Canada open-ouvert@tbs-sct.gc.ca Economics and IndustryEducation and TrainingLabourLabour Market Impact AssessmentLMIAPositiveNegativeTemporary Foreign Worker PositionTFWPLocation of employmentOccupationsIndustriesEmployer Number of approved TFW positions by province/territoryCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_01_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by province/territoryCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_01_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions by urban areaCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_02_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by urban areaCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_02_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions by economic regionCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_03_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by economic regionCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_03_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions by skill levelCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_04_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by skill levelCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_04_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions by skill typeCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_05_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by skill typeCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_05_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions by industryCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_06_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by industryCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_06_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions for caregiversCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_08_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions for caregiversCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_08_f.csv Number of approved TFW positions under Primary AgricultureCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2016_Q4_Table_09_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions under Primary AgricultureCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2016_Q4_Table_09_f.csv Top countries according to number of approved TFW positionsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_10_e.csv Top countries according to number of approved TFW positionsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_10_f.csv Number of employers who received at least one positive or negative LMIACSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_11_e.csv Number of employers who received at least one positive or negative LMIACSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_11_f.csv GlossaryDOC http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/Glossary-TFWS-2008-2015.docx GlossaryDOC http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/Lexique-STET-2008-2015.docx Number of approved TFW positions by occupationsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_07_e.csv Number of approved TFW positions by occupationsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_07_f.csv Number of Requested TFW PositionsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_12_e.csv Number of Requested TFW PositionsCSV http://www.edsc-esdc.gc.ca/ouvert-open/bca-seb/ae-ei/TFWP2017_Q2_Table_12_f.csv

Hi Ofelia, This comment system leads to the team responsible for transparency and accountability work in the public service. We host datasets and records about many things, including historic statistics on immigration and visa applications, but we don't deal with these services directly. For better guidance on this, you will need to contact the person who brokered this contract between you and your employer. Sorry I could not be of more help. Momin The Open Government team

Bonjour ma question est de savoir combien de temps prendra une EIMT? puisque une compagnie d'entretiens Ménagers à déposé les documents d'EIMT à mon nom il ya plus de 6 mois sans aucune

Hi, Can I request the data for Saskatchewan TFW applications and approval for food manufacturing (NAICS 311)?

The data owner has recently posted updated open data files for the Monthly Seasonal Adjusted Unemployment Rates by EI Economic Region. Enjoy! The Open Government team.

I am requesting to provide full data of Canadian employers using Temporary Foreign Worker program and LMIA services. Thank You

Could you provide clear statistics on LMI's which were granted for business owners (i.e. owner-operators). Thanks

Hi Harj, thank you for your comment. I have forwarded your inquiry to the data owner for their response. Stay tuned! Momin, the Open Government team.

Where can one find the list of 29 banned job categories? Can't find this anywhere.

Hi Michael, the article that links to this dataset is referring to number of skilled foreign workers that came to the province of Alberta. You cannot find the 29 banned job categories here. I found this website that provides more information: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/foreign-workers/refusal.html#LOC I hope that helps! Momin, the Open Government team.

Is there a complete list of the 29 banned high skilled positions for foreign workers?

From the data owner: "The statistics related to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program that are made available on the Open Data portal, are based on the 2006 National Occupation Classification (NOC). The list of 29 high-wage occupations (https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/foreign-workers/refusal.html) in the province of Alberta that are part of the Refusal to process is based on 2011 NOC. For the concordance of 2006 to 2011 NOC codes, please visit http://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/subjects/standard/noc/2011/noc-s2006-noc2011. Occupations with approved TFW positions in Alberta can be found in the table entitled 'Number of approved TFW positions by occupations' (http://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/e8745429-21e7-4a73-b3f5-90a779b78d1e) (based on the 2006 NOC codes)." I hope that helps! Momin, the Open Government team.

This is a great initiative. Is data going further back available? Thanks.

Hi David, I'm glad that you find this data useful. More Temporary Foreign Worker Program can be found here: http://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset?q=Temporary+Foreign+Worker+Program+&organization=esdc-edsc Let me know if you have any more questions! Momin, the Open Government team.

These datasets are not easy to read or understand. I would like to request they be published in a report or excel style. It is not very open if it's hard to understand the numbers.

Hi Natalie, The following comment has been posted on behalf of the data owner: "Hello, thank you for your comment. The data you are looking for is located here: http://www.esdc.gc.ca/en/reports/foreign_workers/2015/lmia_quarterly_statistics/index.page The document you consulted on the Open Government website is meant to be machine-readable, which is why it lacks formatting. That being said, we will try to improve how this file looks." -Tasha, the Open Government Team

This would be much more useful if the table titles were a little longer. Several quite different tables have the same truncated title in the list, and it's quite a list to go through to see if any of them has the statistic you are looking for.

Hi Kristi, Thank you for your comment. I have contacted the data owner for action and/ or clarification on this. -Tasha, the Open Government Team
