Hello,

I am wondering if there are number for refugee claimants by province or territory. Specifically, I am looking for how many refugee claimants were in Nova Scotia in 2015/2016.

Thank you,

Gillian

Thank you for your comment Gillian, we will look into adding the tabulation you requested in the coming weeks.

Do you have the following information by top ten source countries: Government Assisted Refugees, Privately Sponsored Refugees, and Blended Visa Office-Referred Refugees? Preferably for 2014, 2015, and 2016? I'm not finding it easily online

Hi Nate, thank you for your comment. I have forwarded your inquiry to the data owner for response. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your comment. Currently there is no table with a breakdown of immigration category and country of citizenship. We are always looking to improve the Open Data Portal and will recommend your suggestion for future enhancements.
If you require the data, you may send a request for custom IRCC data. To submit a request for data, please email the statistiques-statistics@cic.gc.ca mailbox with a detailed description of your requested report. Please note that ad hoc requests for data may require a cost recovery fee to be paid as per the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

Just to clarify, does the "number of people who claimed refugee status at Immigration Visa Offices in Canada" refer to all the refugee claimants (i.e., people who arrived in Canada and sought asylum and thus were not privately sponsored or sponsored by the government)? Or is there overlap between the number of refugees in this dataset and those from http://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/4a1b260a-7ac4-4985-80a0-603bfe4aec11? Thanks!

Xing,

Thanks for your questions, they have been forwarded to the data holder for response.

Hi, the following is a response provided by the data owner:

Thank you for your comment. The table "Number of People who claimed Refugee Status at Immigration Visa Offices in Canada" refers to in-Canada asylum claims at a designated Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada office or at a point of entry. The dataset on resettled refugees refers to the number of permanent residents admitted to Canada through the resettled refugee immigration category which may include some admissions from in-Canada asylum claims.

We apologize for the delay in answering your question.
Momin, Open Government team.

Thank you for your comment. For clarification on refugee claims, please consult the following link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/inside/apply-how.asp The Resettled refugees dataset refers to refugees that have arrived in Canada as part of the Government of Canada's refugee resettlement program. This includes, Government Assisted Refugees (GARs), Privately Sponsored Refugees (PSRs) and Blended Visa Office-Referred Refugees (BVORs). Please consult this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/outside/index.asp
If you have further questions, please contact Statistics-Statistiques@cic.gc.ca.

This dataset should include Top 10 countries for more previous years (at least 10 or so), not only historical data for the Top 10 countries in the most recent complete in which data is available (i.e. should include the Top 10 countries for 2015+10 years of history, plus the Top 10 countries for 2014 plus ten years of history, and so on for for at least the ten last years of data).

Hi Denis,
