Municipal polygons are a graphical representation of the former municipal boundaries as defined in the Municipalities Regulation - Municipalities Act and have an associated place name attribute. These boundaries are no longer in effect as of January 1, 2023.

Local government (LG) polygons are a graphical representation of the local government boundaries as defined in regulation 2022-50 under the Local Governance Act with an associated LG name attribute. Effective date is January 1, 2023.

Legally defined Regional District polygons were drawn from metes and bounds descriptions as written in Letters Patent for Regional Districts in the province of British Columbia.
