Plant community structure is measured at 16 sites within the park on a four-year schedule. A series of five 2x2 metre quadrats are completed at each site with percent cover of all ground vegetation recorded.

The park maps the existing human footprint and footprint edge in Terra Nova.

The park assesses expected ranges for each land cover type: successional stages by stand type, area regenerating after natural disturbance (e.g., fire), mature forest, non-forest, wetlands, and waterbodies.
