The Indigenous Language Act that is being drafted could provide recognition that Indigenous Nations have intellectual property ownership over their languages and cultural properties that relate to their identity as distinct cultures within the country of Canada and through this, ensure that Open Government policies reflect each Nation's right to control data that relates to this identity, historic data or contemporary data. Indigenous Nations will define Open Data in the context of their sovereignty and a Nation to Nation relationship, yet to be defined.
