BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The IAEA was created in 1957. It consists of Member States and invited non-Member States and organizations who have registered in accordance with IAEA rules. Canada has been a Member State since the IAEA's creation. It publishes Protocols and Safeguards Agreements for verification of the peaceful use of all nuclear materials in Members States. The IAEO also operates the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) which is a database focusing on nuclear power plants worldwide. PRIS contains information on power reactors in operation, under construction, or being decommissioned. PRIS reports are available online.
