CNSC staff performed a pre-licensing review of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) Mark II used fuel container (UFC) and posted a summary on the CNSC web site. Please provide the following information related to the CNSC Review of NWMO’s Mark II used fuel container (UFC): 1) A list of documents reviewed by CNSC staff related to and in the course of this review, including the related documents provided by the NWMO, other technical documents from external or independent agencies or experts 2) Communications between and among the CNSC review team and between team members and their supervisors or higher level CNSC staff related to the CNSC review of the NWMO’s Mark II used fuel container (UFC) 3) Briefing notes related to the CNSC staff review of NWMO’s Mark II used fuel container (UFC) prepared for Vice Presidents or the President of the CNSC 4) Documentation of the 8 occurrences where CNSC staff identified a gap (“where the design intent of the UFC diverges from documented CNSC requirements and expectations or where insufficient information was provided”); Specifically, provide documentation of gaps identified with respect to criticality, supporting research and development program, and structural analysis 5) CNSC staff documentation of their observations (e.g. where the NWMO’s design intent is unclear or would benefit from improvement) and comments 6) A full copy of the CNSC staff report of their review of NWMO’s Mark II used fuel container (UFC).
