Completed Access to Information Requests

Transitional Period

Federal departments are moving their web content to Canada.ca. As a part of that process, proactive disclosure reports will become available through the Open Government portal.  During this transition, if a proactive disclosure report from a specific department is not yet available on the Open Government portal please refer to Proactive disclosure by department or agency where a copy can be found.  For any questions on this issue, please contact us at open-ouvert@tbs-sct.gc.ca .

Information on the permits or licences granted to companies at all their locations operating from 1919 to 1984 in the City of Peterborough, which covers the use of radium-226 paint in the manufacturing of clocks, alarm clocks, pocket watches and wall clocks. The three companies are Westclox or the Western Clock Company (two locations), Luminous Processes Ltd. (three locations) and General Electric. I would like to see the paperwork upon the revoking of the licences and or permits that cleared the companies to move. Specifically, the tests or surveys conducted by the Atomic Energy Board which deemed all locations safe for use. I am seeking all recorders that would demonstrate that all of the buildings and surrounding grounds were tested and proven to no longer have radium-226. Records of decommissioning status of all building. The final destination of all unused paints containing radium-226. Lastly, a copy of the discussion which took place during the time of the 150 locations across Canada to clean up buildings which were known to have a history of radium dial painting, approximately 20 years ago.
