Suggested Dataset: Detailed Fisheries Harvest Data

This dataset would include highly detailed information about commercial fisheries harvests on both coasts. In the Pacific, for example, the data would include harvested species and bycatch, the licence used to fish those species, gear type, Pacific Fisheries Management Area (PFMA), harvested weight, and landed value. Per DFO policy, datapoints that are affected by the 3-party rule would be removed for privacy reasons, to ensure that no individually identifying information is made public. Currently, these data are only available from DFO through specific data requests. Processing these requests takes valuable time away from resource-strapped DFO personnel and results in frustratingly long waits for citizens wanting to use the data.
