Extreme Weather Indices

A suite of extreme weather indices has been created to help with agricultural decision-making. The indices are short-term weekly forecasts (for up to a month ahead) that predict risks to agricultural production from extreme weather factors related to temperature, precipitation, heat, and wind. This Application is completely based on Text, you can enter the city name (Ottawa) and send it to 613-800-2882 and you will receive the weather Information of today, but if you text city name followed by forecast (Ottawa Forecast) to 613-800-2882, you will receive the full week weather forecast. Any one with any device can use this application.

Satellite Soil Moisture

The following maps and data show levels of moisture in the top five centimeters of soil in Canada on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis. The data is produced from passive microwave satellite data collected by the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite and converted to soil moisture using the latest version of the SMOS soil moisture processor. The data are produced by the European Space Agency. The data are gridded to a resolution of 0.25 degrees.

Weather Watchers

A service which supplies SMS or email alerts of Environment Canada issues severe weather watches and warnings. The service is provided free of charge, shows all current watches and warnings on a zoom-able map. Double clicking on a highlighted area will give you details about the current watches and warnings for that area. Users can subscribe to any areas in the country and be alerted, usually within a few minutes when Environment Canada issues a watch or warning.
