Seasonal Climatologies of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from British Columbia Continental Margin (BCCM) Model (1981-2010)

Seasonal Climatologies of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from British Columbia Continental Margin (BCCM) Model (1981-2010) Seasonal climatologies of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone (CPEEZ) were computed from a numerical simulation of the British Columbia continental margin (BCCM) model for the 1981 to 2010 period, which can be considered as a representation of the climatological state of the region. The BCCM model is an ocean circulation-biogeochemical model implementation of the Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS version 3.5). The horizontal resolution is eddy-resolving at 3 km and the vertical discretization is based on a terrain-following coordinate system with 42 depth levels of increasing resolution near the surface. A detailed description of the BCCM model is given in Peña et al. (2019). Spring months were defined as April to June, summer months were defined as July to September, fall months were defined as October to December, and winter months were defined as January to March. The data available here contain raster layers of seasonal climatology of temperature, salinity, current speed, nitrate, oxygen, total alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, aragonite saturation state, phytoplankton, and primary production. The data include 47 vertical levels (surface, bottom, and 45 more selected depths), except for total phytoplankton (surface values only) and primary production (depth-integrated values). Model grids were set to NaN values in regions where the model output is highly uncertain, such as inlets, nearshore areas, and the Strait of Georgia. Model results have been compared against tide gauge data, altimetry, CTD and nutrient profiles, observed geostrophic currents, and seasonal temperature and salinity climatologies over the 1981 to 2010 period. The model is successful in reproducing the main features of the region including salient features of the seasonal cycle and the vertical structure of density and nutrients. 2023-07-11 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Angelica.Pena@dfo-mpo.gc.ca Nature and EnvironmentScience and TechnologyClimatologyModellingOceansClimate Data DictionaryPDF https://pacgis01.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/FGPPublic/Seasonal_Climatologies_CPEEZ_BCCM_1981_2010/Data_Dictionary_EN_FR_Seasonal_Climatologies_BCCM_1981-2010.pdf ReferencesPDF https://pacgis01.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/FGPPublic/Seasonal_Climatologies_CPEEZ_BCCM_1981_2010/References_EN_FR_Seasonal_Climatologies_BCCM_1981-2010.pdf Seasonal temperature climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/037661e7-11ec-4f1b-8e3d-1e756ac9e9f8 Seasonal salinity climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/9fce9fac-80c5-4106-a09f-a69490adad27 Seasonal current speed climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/3dc54f1b-4c6c-4d54-8bb4-e5b56babfc4a Seasonal nitrate climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/b431d6d7-e17a-4567-8fc9-ecad4b318958 Seasonal oxygen climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/dc81e24d-bac3-4d6c-8f9d-ddfc63633f0d Seasonal total alkalinity climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/88176a59-7c69-40c9-bcac-6b46e74bad99 Seasonal dissolved inorganic carbon climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/19aefad9-c3e0-4486-9f5e-8e979f4825e0 Seasonal pH climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/75139c26-e407-41fc-bc20-5b9ea871c009 Seasonal aragonite saturation state climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/de96974b-9f19-499a-af27-7a47930c3ca2 Seasonal total phytoplankton climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/b26ea354-d50b-4581-9c84-67dd7abc1ac2 Seasonal primary production climatology of the Canadian Pacific Exclusive Economic Zone from BCCM model (1981-2010)HTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/7b6176f0-671b-4d9d-aafe-041801c9ede9
