Atlantic Herring Abundance in Placentia Bay

Atlantic Herring Abundance in Placentia Bay This project was completed by the Pelagics Section in the Newfoundland and Labrador Science Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). As part of the Coastal Environmental Baseline Program, a historical research gillnet program was reinitiated in Placentia Bay. Four local fishers each set fleets of standardized nets to catch herring for 6 weeks during the spring. The data collected was used to update a time series and provide advice at the herring stock assessment in October 2022.  This program was continued in the 22/23 fiscal year. Data collected from this program included gillnet catch rates, bycatch, temperature and biological (herring) samples; from which biological metrics such as length, weight, sex, maturity and age were measured. This record contains catch data for 2018 to 2021, as well as biological data from 2018. 2024-05-16 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Sanaollah.Zabihi-Seissan@dfo-mpo.gc.ca Form DescriptorsNature and EnvironmentScience and TechnologyCoastal Environmental Baseline ProgramSpecies DistributionAnimal populationsCoastal watersFishMarine biology Data Dictionary - Placentia Bay Atlantic Herring RGN - Biological Data.csvCSV https://api-proxy.edh.azure.cloud.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/catalogue/records/8876f846-1e9a-4997-986b-3eec2c319f35/attachments/Data%20Dictionary%20-%20Placentia%20Bay%20Atlantic%20Herring%20RGN%20-%20Biological%20Data.csv Data Dictionary - Placentia Bay Atlantic Herring RGN - Logbook Data.csvCSV https://api-proxy.edh.azure.cloud.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/catalogue/records/8876f846-1e9a-4997-986b-3eec2c319f35/attachments/Data%20Dictionary%20-%20Placentia%20Bay%20Atlantic%20Herring%20RGN%20-%20Logbook%20Data.csv Dictionnaire de données - Hareng de la baie Placentia RGN - données du journal de bord .csvCSV https://api-proxy.edh.azure.cloud.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/catalogue/records/8876f846-1e9a-4997-986b-3eec2c319f35/attachments/Dictionnaire%20de%20donn%C3%A9es%20-%20Hareng%20de%20la%20baie%20Placentia%20RGN%20-%20donn%C3%A9es%20du%20journal%20de%20bord%20.csv SHP_BIO.7zSHP https://api-proxy.edh.azure.cloud.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/catalogue/records/8876f846-1e9a-4997-986b-3eec2c319f35/attachments/SHP_BIO.7z SHP_LOGBOOK.7zSHP https://api-proxy.edh.azure.cloud.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/catalogue/records/8876f846-1e9a-4997-986b-3eec2c319f35/attachments/SHP_LOGBOOK.7z Web Map ServiceESRI REST https://gisp.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/arcgis/rest/services/FGP/Atlantic_Herring_Abundance_in_Placentia_Bay/MapServer Web Map ServiceESRI REST https://gisp.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/arcgis/rest/services/FGP/Atlantic_Herring_Abundance_in_Placentia_Bay/MapServer
