After the close-out of each fiscal year, government-wide financial information is published in the Public Accounts. This dataset, based on the Volume 3 of the Public Accounts, presents (in dollars), by ministry, details for Losses of public property, Losses of revenue due to fraud or willful misrepresentation, and Losses of public money due to an offence, illegal act or accident that were discovered or detected during the reported fiscal years. Information on losses of public money and property is required under the Treasury Board directive on losses of money or property. This dataset is from the Public Accounts of Canada and is not the official record of information. The official version of record can be found on the Receiver General website for the most recent fiscal year and the Library and Archives website for historical years.
Note: As of February 2024, the following three Losses-related datasets have been archived:
- Archived, Losses of public money due to an offence, illegal act or accident as per the Public Accounts of Canada
- Archived, Losses of Revenues Due to Fraud or Willful Misrepresentation as per Public Accounts of Canada
- Archived, Losses of Public Property as per the Public Accounts of Canada
The contents of these existing Open Government portal entries have been combined together to form this new dataset. The three previous datasets have been labelled as "Archived" and while their data files will also remain accessible in their original formats (for consistency and transparency), these original files will have no further updates applied to them. All future updates will only be applied to the combined CSV file of this dataset.
