Educational Assistance Payments (EAPs) are amounts paid from a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) to an eligible youth to assist with post-secondary education expenses. EAPs consist of the Canada Education Savings Grant, the Canada Learning Bond, provincial education savings incentives, and income earned on the money saved in the RESP. Payments to a beneficiary are made according to the specific terms of the RESP.
Post-Secondary Education (PSE) withdrawals are drawn from the contributions made to the youth’s RESP, and exclude education savings incentive amounts and income earned (i.e., EAPs).
The sum of EAPs and PSE withdrawals represents the amount of money available for the beneficiary’s PSE expenses.
