CIHR Grants and Awards
Data presented herein represent information on all grants and awards where CIHR managed the competition and contributed funds, from the 2000-01 fiscal year to the most recent completed fiscal year (currently 2020-21). Fiscal years at CIHR run from April 1st to March 31st the following year. All data will be re-uploaded in full every fiscal year to reflect most recent data.
Datasets can be joined using the Key-Clé column, which serves as a unique identifier for all funded applications. Applications have multiple lines in the person roles database if there are multiple co-applicants on an application, and also in the partnership dataset if the applications have multiple partners. The Grant-Awards dataset is separated by application and by institution paid, therefore if multiple institutions are paid in the same fiscal year for a single application, the fiscal year amount paid is split between two rows in the column labelled AwardAmountinFY-MontantSubventiondeAF. The total amount to be awarded per application (TotalAwardAmount-MontantSubventionTotal) is not split by institution. This total amount is thus duplicated for applications with multiple institutions paid. This total amount is also subject to change for all grants and awards not yet paid in full.
Note: for CIHR an award is direct salary support to individual research personnel or stipend support to individual research trainees. A grant is support for the direct costs of research projects including for the training of researchers and/or activities that support the translation of research findings, conducted by either an investigator working alone or by a group of investigators working together.
