Request Summary: Archival research will focus on the period from the origins of the Royal Victoria Hospital in the 1880s until today. Of particular interest is the period from 1946 until 1964, when Dr. Ewen Cameron was head of the Allan Memorial Institute. While at the Institute, Cameron conducted experimental treatments. Our research is seeking to uncover whether Indigenous children were subjected to Cameron’s experiments, and whether these children were brought to the Allan Memorial Institute through Residential Schools, child welfare programs, or the juvenile justice system.
