Phytoplankton pigment monitoring on the west coast of Canada

Phytoplankton pigment monitoring on the west coast of Canada Changes in phytoplankton abundance and community composition have the potential to impact the entire food web and alter ecosystem productivity and biogeochemical cycles. Recognizing its importance, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) established a phytoplankton monitoring program on the Pacific coast of Canada based on phytoplankton pigment measurements. Phytoplankton pigments (chlorophylls and carotenoids) and ancillary data are collected annually on DFO cruises at multiple locations in waters of the northeast subarctic Pacific and the west coast of Canada. Water samples are collected at discrete depths in the upper layer and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). 2023-07-11 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Angelica.Pena@dfo-mpo.gc.ca Nature and EnvironmentScience and TechnologyBiological oceanographyPhytoplanktonMicroalgaePlanktonAquatic ecosystems Data DictionaryHTML https://pacgis01.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/FGPPublic/Phytoplankton_Pigment_Monitoring_West_Coast_of_Canada/Data_dictionary_EN_FR_phytoplankton_pigment_monitoring_WC_Canada.htm Phytoplankton pigments along Line-PHTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/871b0b32-3135-40c8-868e-c5d87800ca76 Phytoplankton pigments along the west coast of Vancouver IslandHTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/61877f60-1a1e-4c3d-8a28-02fdf071e5a8 Phytoplankton pigments in the Strait of Georgia and inland watersHTML https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/4aa867b2-4351-434e-81d6-0e44015a7536
