This indicator measures the extent to which the Translation Bureau’s terminology data, found within TERMIUM Plus®(https://www.btb.termiumplus.gc.ca/), is within the established quality standards, with an overall goal of increasing the quality of the data and of minimizing the number of errors. Each year, an internal quality assurance process is carried out where a random sample of approximately 500 terminology records (that were either created or modified throughout the preceding fiscal year) are reviewed. In order to meet the quality standards, a terminology record should, for example:
- be free of spelling and grammar errors;
- deal with only one concept;
- include appropriate subject fields;
- provide a correct translation;
- list any relevant synonyms and spelling variants;
- provide the gender of the French terms and synonyms;
- give relevant, clear and accurate information on the concept, whenever possible; and
- include the sources used.
In order to meet the service quality objective, at least 95% of the sampled records must contain no more than two errors.
Note: The information from this dataset is combined with that of a complementary dataset entitled Percentage of translation and interpretation services that comply with established quality standards to evaluate the Departmental Results Report (DRR) indicator "Percentage of linguistic services that comply with current quality standards". An explanation of how this DRR indicator is calculated is provided in the supporting documentation, along with a description of each of the main categories of linguistic services provided by the Translation Bureau overall.
