Status

Status of Open Government Plan milestones (complete, substantial, limited, not started)

Complete:

  • 5.3 Work on developing a performance management framework and indicators that can better measure a wider breadth of Open Government efforts and outcomes.
    • TBS worked with the SecDev Group to propose an approach to assessing the impact of open government reforms in the Government of Canada, including a proposed performance management framework. It is meant to be a starting point with which to facilitate a conversation within the Government of Canada and with stakeholders about what a Canadian framework for open government impact should include and how it can best be evaluated. Report can be viewed here.

Substantial:

  • 5.1 Integrate key performance indicators related to openness and transparency as part of a Performance Framework for managing data and information government-wide.
  • 5.2 Measure and report publicly on annual departmental progress on implementation of the Directive on Open Government

Other completed milestones:

  • Key performance indicators and targets have been identified for all 22 commitments in the Third Biennial Plan to the Open Government Partnership.
  • Online dashboards have been created to publicly track progress
  • Agreement reached to pursue further work on this commitment in collaboration with provincial and territorial partners
Challenge
  • Are there particular areas of open government that you don't see being tracked on Open.Canada.ca but that you would think should be? If so, let us know.
  • Do you have experience measuring and tracking the impact of open government? Do you have examples of good performance indicators? We would love to connect with you. We would really like to see Canadian academia get involved. How can we kick-start this involvement?
